One of the next people Don saw was his childhood friend, Mike Wood, who was killed in a car wreck at age 19. Mike had invited Don to Sunday school as a child and had influenced him in becoming a Christian. Don was devastated when Mike died and questioned why God allowed Mike to die so young. He also wondered why he would take such a strong disciple for the Gospel.
When Don saw Mike in Heaven, Mike “slipped his arm around my shoulder, my pain and grief vanished. Never had I seen Mike smile so brightly. I still didn’t know why, but the joyouseness of the place wiped away any questions. Everything felt blissful. Perfect.”
As Don walked closer to the gates of Heaven, he was greeted by many more people he had known in his life. “Warm, radiant light engulfed me. As I looked around, I could hardly grasp the vivid, dazzling colors. Every Hue and tone surpassed anything I had ever seen.” He wrote that the closer he got to the gates, the brighter the illuminating light became. He had no regrets about people or things he had left behind on earth. “It was as if God had removed anything negative or worrisome from my consciousness.”
